Thanks for all the kind words regarding the loss of our Mother Joy Mikeska.

I have received a lot of your e-mail regarding my lack of recent news updates. I have to confess that my Mothers death has left me a little lost and very sad. It has been very difficult to focus not only my business, but my personal life as well. The many hundreds of cards and flower memorials sent to us was overwhelming. I want to thank all of my friends for the kind words of sympathy. Joy Mikeska will remain in our hearts forever.

9-11-2001

Just when our family was beginning to return to normal after Moms death, September 11th, 2001 (9-11-2001) happened. Many of you know of my 22 year history as a firefighter in Taylor. The last 5 years as the Assistant Chief. I still cannot comprehend the loss of over 6000 people. More difficult, the loss of over 300 brother firefighters. I pray for their families and I thank God for their dedicated service. I think these pictures best describe how I feel and how my country feels.

Sadness

pride and patriotism

A few days ago, I was asked by Les Bunte, the Assistant Chief of the Austin Fire Department to help with a homecoming event for the Texas Task Force 1 Urban Search and Rescue Team that had been deployed to New York 10 days ago. This team is made up of Firefighters and EMS Search and Rescue Specialists from all over the State of Texas. Today, they returned home to Texas after performing a very difficult job. I felt it was necessary to donate a "Texas Bar-B-Q Buffet" for these brave men and women and their families. A very small token of thanks for representing our great state in the New York rescue effort. The 72 Task Force members and their 228 guests had a great time.

State Senator Barrientos was present to welcome home our Texans

I was honored to know one of Task Force 1 members. This is Rod Dennison a friend of mine for almost 23 years. Rod was one of my EMT- Paramedic Instructors 23 years ago and we worked together as EMS Course Coordinators and as EMT-Paramedic Examiners in the mid 1980's. Rod is one of the most highly respected members of the Texas Department of Health EMS Division.

Thanks again........
